Under 19s leave for World Cup
The Canadian U19 squad leave for Australia this evening (30th December) for a week of warm weather practice (with practice matches on January 3,4 and 6) before flying to Christchurch, New Zealand on 7th January. The team plays warm-up matches against Kenya (January 9) and Ireland (January 11). Their opening match of the tournament is against Bangladesh (January 15), followed by Namibia (January 18), and England (January 20).
Current Canadian senior captain Nitish Kumar played in the 2010 U19 World Cup and told the ICC
“Although I believe the talent level at that age is not much different compared to other full member countries, apart from a few players who will probably be playing for their national team in a year or so after the (U19) World Cup, I believe it’s important to test your skills against guys just as good or better to see where you are as a cricketer, and how much more you need to improve.”
