A stylish, top-order batsman, he played for Canada Under-19s and then represented the Americas in the 1999 U-19 World Cup, by which time he had already made his senior debut for his country. A regular in the side, he has never quite lived up to his promise, and he was out of the game for almost two years from 2005 because of a debilitating disease of the auto-immune system .
After a spectacular domestic season in 2007, Surkari returned to the senior team in 2008 only to have his season cut short by injury. He rejoined the squad full time in 2009 following the World Cup Qualifier and has been an integral cog in the teams batting line up since. Surkari is at times spectacular on the field and provides leadership both on and off the field for the team.
Surkari currently sits on the Cricket Canada Board of Directors as the Athlete Representative Cricket Canada
