The last few days of 2011 were extremely busy for Cricket Canada's KIDS program as  the Seven Oaks School Division of Winnipeg, Manitoba, recently initiated the introduction of cricket into some of its Schools.  Keith Deonaraine of the Cosmos Cricket Club in conjunction with Cricket Canada KIDS over the past few weeks \spent several days at West St. Paul School, HC Avery Middle School, Forest Park School and Ecole Riverbend introducing the game of cricket to over 1000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6.  Deonaraine recently completed the ICC level 1 coaching program, through Cricket Canada, in September 2011. Keith was very  pleased with the enthusiasm of the students, many of whom have never played or in most cases never even seen cricket before.

Many schools continue to show interest in cricket and Deonaraine will be busy in the coming months visiting many other schools in the Seven Oaks Division.  There is interest in the program because schools are the ones now reaching out to Deonaraine to bring cricket to their schools.  The short term goals is to have students participate in a school tournament at the Elwick Cricket field in the spring, and eventually bring them into Manitoba Cricket Association tournaments and programs.
