CANADA'S TOUR OF BARBADOS

GAME 1
April 2, 2017
Cheema & Dhaliwal

Game 1

After spending most of the Winter  preparing indoors, Canadian cricketers had a chance to take their training and preparation outdoors with a five match tour to Barbados. Missing a few players due to work and university commitments, a fifteen member Canada squad left for Barbados on March 30th for some much needed match practice. Canada's tour is all part of its groundwork as they strive to win the upcoming ICC WCL Division 3 which will be held in Uganda from May 21 - 31, 2017.

In the team's first game, the Canada XI beat St. Catherine by 216 runs. Canada XI batting first scored 396/7 before bowling out St. Catherine for 180 in 41.4 overs.

Canada's inning got off to a shaky start at 1-1 before a second wicket stand of 89 between Bhavindu Adhihetty (49) and Navneet Dhaliwal (75). Once they lost the 2nd wicket at 90, Canada XI quickly found itself in a bit of trouble at 111/4. At this point Rizwan Cheema joined Dhaliwal and the pair put on 260 runs for the 5th wicket.  Cheema who started a bit cautiously, displayed some  amazing  stroke play while scoring 172 in 84 balls including fourteen (14) sixes (6s) and eleven (11) fours (4s). He also shared a 60 runs 6th wicket partnership with Saad Zafar.

Set a huge victory target, the St. Catherine's innings never really got any momentum as they lost wickets consistently. There were good contributions from Puckerin 57 and Batson 38. For the Canada XI, Pervez & Dutta had 3 wickets each, Khalid 2 and 1 wicket each to Siddiqui and Zafar.

Summarized scores Canada 396/7 (Cheema 172, Dhaliwal 75, Zafar 49*, Adhihetty 49, Grenidge 2 - 62, Skeete 2 - 76); St. Catherine 180 all out (Puckerin 57, Batson 38, Pervez 3 - 32, Dutta 3, 33, Khalid 2 - 32)

Game 2 will be played on April 3, 2017 against the Police Sports Club.
